Alexander received his first camera, a Kodak Brownie for Christmas when he was nine, and thus began many years of lots of snapshots of various family events and friends. The Brownie finally wore out and Alexander was without a camera until high school when, to be a yearbook photographer he emptied his savings account to purchase a Pentax Spotmatic. Shooting thousands of images throughout high school and college only whetted his appetite to be a better photographer. While working for Eastman Kodak, Alexander dove into photography at the Atlanta College of Art where he refined his eye for composition, and his black and white darkroom skills. Wanting to learn more, he met and began working with Atlanta event shooters Helen Lee (Lee Studio) and Jack Fleeman Photography. A short time later he aligned himself with the commercial and fashion/glamour focused Studio One. Studio One exposed Alexander to the very competitive world of commercial and fashion photography in Atlanta.  Working with models, actors, directors and various products was fun, but over
time more people asked Alexander  to photograph weddings, bar/bat-mitzvahs, and other activities, puling him away from his commercial and fashion/glamour foundations. Following this course to retail work while still working with Helen and Jack, he formed a partnership, Phillip - Alexander Photographie. Two years later Phillip left Atlanta, and Alexander launched “Alexander James Photographie, Ltd.” To this day the influence of his early glamour and fashion experience is reflected in Alexander’s portraits and wedding work. Now working primarily with digital Nikon equipment Alexander can provide analog/film medium format images using Hasselblad or Nikon for clients seeking or preferring the subtle tonal variations and qualities that only film can provide (of course after processing, all film is scanned and converted into a digital work stream).

Alexander’s team consists of highly talented and capable photographers/assistants, ensuring all work and events are captured to our clients’ expectations. After more than two decades of capturing moments, making people smile, and shooting countless events and weddings from Atlanta to Toronto to Barcelona, Alexander semi-retired from active photography in 2006 to devote more time to his family and personal life. Alexander still loves working with people and is happy to consider all requests for his services.
